GMC Sierra Payload Capacity Explained
Payload is how much weight your truck can carry on the truck itself. This includes:
- passengers
- cargo in the bed/cab
- hitch weight / tongue weight from the trailer
Where to find payload
Look at the door jamb sticker. The “Tire and Loading Information” label shows your maximum combined weight of occupants and cargo.
Why payload limits towing
Tongue weight is typically 10–15% of trailer weight.
Example: a 7,500 lb trailer may put 750–1,125 lb on the truck—before passengers and gear.
